France has been responsible for creating some of the most stunning golf courses in the world and is a culture guided by beauty and elegance. However, there is a private estate in the heart of the Loire Valley, name Les Bordes, which puts them all to shame and makes even the most elegant of settings seem less so by comparison.
When walking through, a break in the silence might come from a heron’s call or the skid of pebbles as a golf cart whizzes by. But otherwise, mornings at Les Bordes are magically quiet. The still is in contrast to the theatrical early dawn; dragonflies dart about and clip the surface of the water, black kites swoop dramatically into the woods, donkeys converse in distant fields. The Le Baron, the utterly tranquil golf course which sits at the heart of this 700-hectare French country estate. However, it is of little surprise, for amid the fascination this revered course has attracted, long considered as one of the most challenging in the world, its perfection has been always part of its legend.
Visitors to the Loire Valley are entranced with the stately Chateaux that make this land a place of beautiful contrast to the vibrant Paris. The Les Bordes estate may only be 90 minutes from the bustling capital but it feels like a different world; a place where children roam free discovering the secrets of the ancient Sologne forest.
You can fly to Paris from all over the world with Turkish Airlines and be in the enchanting grip of the Loire Valley soon after that; making this an ideal location for a second home in paradise.
