The brilliant beaches, incredible food, the thrill of the Heat, the prestige of the Dolphins – there is so much to do and see in Miami. But it would be foolish to forget another major part of the city’s undeniable appeal – the world class golf.
Some of the world’s most challenging and picturesque courses are found in Miami, giving golf fans the chance to follow in the footsteps of their idols (even if they can’t make posting a low score look quite as simple…)
Perhaps the most dramatic course of them all is the legendary TPC Blue Monster at Doral. Recently redesigned by Gil Hanse, who has just created the first ever Olympic golf course in Rio, and overseen by the irrepressible Donald Trump – the course is now the home of the World Golf Championships. It is a struggle for even players such as Rory McIlroy or Tiger Woods to keep their ball dry while navigating the many strategically placed water hazards, but the temptation for amateur players to try and beat the monster still certainly exists.
The Blue Monster is not the only golfing challenge in the region however, from the exquisite luxury of Turnberry Isle to any of the 20 public courses in the city.
Turkish Airlines now flies directly from Miami to Istanbul, with Ian Poulter on board the maiden flight on the way to play the Turkish Airlines Open 2015. So there is little excuse to not visit this golfing paradise.
Next month, Singapore will host the HSBC Women’s Champions, one of the most prestigious tournaments and the fourth event on the LPGA tour.
