A busy month of September was brought to a close in style at Kemer Golf and Country Club in Istanbul after 3 days of competitive golf to decide which two players would be attending the Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup Grand Finals held at Titanic Hotels In October and November.
The month began in Accra, Ghana at Celebrity Golf Club as over 130 players battled it out for a place in the Finals at the new venue. In the proceeding 7 days, the series would travel to 4 continents as Taipei, Lagos, Montevideo, Nice and Saint Petersburg all played host to personally-invited guests of Turkish Airlines.
There was then an Americas theme to follow as San Francisco and Los Angeles events took place at Ruby Hill Golf Club and Angeles National respectively as California became the focus of the series.
A trip down to Brazil followed a day later as Elisabeth Buny played an excellent round at Sao Fernando Golf Club with 43 points to cement her place in Antalya.
The following week was also eventful at events in Colombo, Beijing, Atlanta and Bologna set the tone for what was to come. On Monday 24th September, the TAWGC travelled to Manchester to one of the most renowned courses in the world, Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club, which has played host to no less than 12 Open Championships with golfing greats such as Seve Ballesteros and Ernie Els claiming memorable victories there.
A quick stop in Washington DC at Potomac Shores Golf Club and Rinkven Golf Club in Brussels followed before a return to Ireland’s most prestigious course, the K Club, home of the 2006 Ryder Cup rounded off a memorable week.
Events in Barcelona, Venice, Geneva and an inaugural Malaga qualifier at Atalaya Golf Country Club came before the traditional curtain closer in Istanbul saw almost 300 golfers playing for 2 places in the Finals.
